"Polly"
My mother text me the other day saying the following:
Heard Polly by Nirvana this AM. Forgot how great Kurt was. Have a great day.
She is right. Somehow I have forgotten the instigating cause of my teenage rebellion. The initiator who drew me to a life of non conformism. The sound that drove me to a lifestyle of alternative chaos and divine understanding of the pain of love and to simply live. Thanks Nirvana. I still smell like teen spirit.

Getting Old with Sonic Youth
I was born on March 26, 1979. I will be turning 30 this week and while others fret as they come up on that ripe age, I sit back and enjoy! Getting older just means getting radder! I mean watching all my role models still rock is just a promise that I will continue rocking despite the number I might happen to be. So don't let the man keep bringing you down. Instead rock n f-ing roll.

Mission In the Rain
3/18/78
Ten years ago I walked this street
my dreams were ridin tall
Tonight I would be thankful
Lord, for any dream at all
Some folks would be happy
just to have one dream come true
but everything you gather
is just more that you can lose
Come again
Walking along in the Mission in the rain
Come again
Walking along in the Mission in the rain
All the things I planned to do
I only did half way
Tomorrow will be Sunday
born of rainy Saturday

Grateful!

Money Problems???

No worries! Just go on Phish Tour!!! The foursome reunited last weekend in Hampton, Virginia and drew up quite the crowd. It had been 5 years since the band had hit the stage, so you could say the fans were a bit restless. Allegedly, around $1.2 million in illegal drugs were seized by police at this high profile reunion show. For the full article, go here. Apparently leading the way for the economies shift through drug trade, Phish is also setting the bar for free downloads. They have decided to give away all 3 nights of their Hampton Reunion shows for free. They are confident enough that their phans will support them through thick and thin. Why would they sweat a little free download when they have hours of shows for sale and to come. For more info about these downloads, go here. To get the ophishial downloads of these shows, go here.

THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS

It was the year between 6th & 7th grade. The year when things started making sense. I was understanding individuality and realizing that I didn't need to be like all the other girls from Nordstrom's Charm School. My friend Christie's Aunt gave me Meat is Murder and The Queen Is Dead tapes. I really could relate! I was already into tons of New Wave, 80's stuff and of course rap, but these tapes essentially changed everything. I was immediately prompted to find out exactly what everything meant, in the lyrics, the literature references and the siren that would be draw me in for the rest of my life. I was so amazed that a musician could be so poetic and so right on my adolescent level. The sounds drowned me out and here I wake today, still impacted and influenced by the strange and lovable sounds of The Smiths. Since I received the tapes, I have been to countless Smiths/Moz conventions, concerts featuring one or more members ( I have now seen them all ), and owe tons of rare bootlegs. Even my high school boyfriend, Johnny, was obsessed. My sister introduced me to a guy Tony, who was so fortunate to meet Moz one day. This kid Tony went so far as to have Moz sign his arm and then go and get it permanently tattooed on his arm forever. I don't blame him, I would have done the same. If you have not heard The Smiths, now is the time. Johnny Marr is an amazing guitarist who shreds any fuckin hippie jam band away. Paired with Morrissey's poerty and soothing voice they make an unstoppable team who will never be reckoned with. Unfortunately, The Smiths split in the 80's, but you can still see all members separately. Not as fun as the days of the Cemetery Gates, but you can always find Moz performing his new hits, or watch Johnny Marr DJ in Portland... as for the rest of the members... they rock too.. it is just Morrissey and Marr are a team of genius who will never be matched.
So, take me out tonight...
... and if a double decker bus... crashes into us... to die by your side...
well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Questionable
Rodney Mullen
Rick Howard
I remember 1992. I was 13. I was obsessed with skateboarding and skater boys. Plan B's Questionable was my favorite skate video. In 1992, things were good. I saw weed, guns, and speed for my first time just around the block from my parents house. Daniel Akamine, Erik Evenson and Miles Brown would skate by to steal beers from my dad. 1992 was good, things were simple, life was good.
Busy With Nothing
I am always busy trying to 'make it'. It has been really annoying lately. Again, I can't help but think about where I have been and what I have been doing for so long. I don't try to credit my past for making the future more difficult but sometimes I can't help but wonder. Good grief Nicole!

Faith

On July 2. 2008, my dreams came true. In 1984, when I told my mother I had a crush on George Michael, she responded "that is the guy you have a crush on?". Yes, mommy, that is who I have a crush on...yesterday, today and tomorrow. On July 2, I was blessed by the presence of Mr. George Michael. After a 17 year break from touring, Michael is back and in full swing. Putting out a new album featuring classics as well as some new hits, Michael keeps his enthusiasm and continues to amaze us with his beautiful voice. On Monday, an agent at my office called and changed my life forever. Joel asked if I wanted to see my crush, George! I was flabbergasted! George Michael? Mr. Wham! Mr. I want your sex?! YES YES YES!!! I begged my boss for the time off and got ready! The show was in Seattle and we spent the whole day checking out hotels, looking for out 80's icon. After about 5 hotel searches we decided to get ready for the show and headed out. The concert was amazing to say the least. George, as beautiful as ever, made us cry with tunes like 'Careless Whisper', 'Praying For Time' and even the Police cover 'Roxanne'. It was totally fantastic! He closed with 'Freedom', one of my favorite songs. I had an amazing time and am so grateful that Joel granted me the opportunity of a lifetime! George, I love you!! Thank you for making hairy chests hot as hell!!
Hater Nation
Bob Is Back!

I moved out of La Habra when I was 19. At that point I had a ton of friends. Unfortunately, I lost contact with a lot of these people. There were, however, tons of friends I kept in touch with or were able to easily find. Over the years, me and my gypsy friend, together or separated, would go on our adventures. Through the years we could lose contact and then somehow find each other and reunite like it was 97 or something. So, yesterday I found Bob Bligh. Bob lived down the street, up the hill and around the corner from me. I can't even begin to tell you about him or the good times we have had together. I could go on for hours about our crazy adventures. I don't mean like kinda crazy, I mean board certified crazy. Add Madd Matt to the adventure and now we are toxic avengers raging the planet in search of the ultimate scheme for amusement. Bob, I miss you so much and can't wait to see you. Reunited and it feels so good.
To all my homies from back in the day, I miss you so much and will always rememeber the wonderful adventures we had. Till the next episode... I am not done with you yet!!
LOVE YOU!
L.A. RIOTS
where were you 16 years ago?

i can still remember standing on the balcony looking towrad the city and seeing smoke. my mom told me to hide in the closet if anything happened. she said she'd call from montebello if there were any problems heading east.
I remember watching tv and becoming so sad. i was moved. l.a. was moved. shit was going down. fires burning, people dying, fighting, looting... how did it all stop? we know how it all began: hate.
let the riots be a lesson: the more hate you spread, the bigger the shitstorm is going to be.

Chris Perry

I found out a few days ago that Chris Perry, who I went to high school with passed away in a car accident. Apparently, the night of March 29, 2008, he fell asleep at the wheel and hit a center divider. Chris was in my class and my age. This is so sad. He was way too young to die. The world is truly at a loss. Rest in peace friend. Till the next episode...
