Psychedelajawea
My friend Luke Forsyth has a new band. I had them play my Short Short's Party, last summer, but the audience was not digging their experimental noise sounds. I later told Luke that they were ahead of their time and they didn't want squares liking their music anyway. I think he understood because Psychedelajawea launched a Southwest Tour. You can check out a video from their recent tour here.
Peace Out P-twn

Yesterday I put my 2 weeks in at my office job. It went over really well & they are all really happy for me. I am moving out of Portland on Oct. 1. That is the day I will drive to Humboldt to get the rest of my junk & see all the beautiful people I love, miss and adore. On Oct. 11th, I roll down to So Cal to visit the fam fam & on Oct.17th I fly out to NYC. In NYC, I will be going to Sonic Yoga to complete their teacher training. Sweet! I am so pumped to do yoga & rage NYC. I have so many East Coast fam fam & I am so excited to see them again! After NYC session, I am flying back to the Westside to see Julia Stephen's, one of my best girls, in Sonora, Ca. where I will stay till X-mas, then back to So Cal. I am not sure what the future holds or where I will be in 2009. All I know is that I want to see my family & friends more, see the sunshine a bit more and surf tons!!!
Hope to you see while I am on Nicole Fall tour!
Love you!!
NW MUSIC FEST AND BEYOND
Flipper with Krist Novoselic
12:50 am, Sunday, Sept. 6. Ash Street Saloon: It suddenly dawns on me as Flipper are setting up that the majority of the people I've seen working the soundboards this weekend were women. How freakin' cool is that? (RH)
12:55 am, Sunday, Sept. 6. Ash Street Saloon: Flipper front man Bruce Loose is stalking the stage as the rest of the band sets up, trying to be heard over the loud garage rock being played over the sound system. As best as I can make out, he's happy that he can smoke on stage, he wants to know how many people have actually heard of this band before, and he doesn't want people spilling his pitchers of Guinness and water that are sitting in front of the kick drum. (RH)
1:00 am, Sunday, Sept. 6. Ash Street Saloon: Having missed them the last time they came through town, I can't tell you how absolutely off the wall excited I am to be watching Flipper playing "Way of the World." It sounds as vibrant and brutal as it did when I first heard it. (RH)
1:25 am Saturday, Sept. 6. Ash Street Saloon: Halfway through the set, just as bassist Krist Novoselic's playing gets unbearably loud, I almost collapse in a heap on the floor due to exhaustion.
This was taken from the Willamete Weekly.
This past weekend was the North West Music Fest. Wow. I saw 21+ bands in two nights. I started the weekend out watching The Skinnyz at Rontom's. They totally shred even though their guitarist told me off last year ( grudger ). Then more bands that all sounded the same... then Witchcraft who obviously rocks. Second night highlights were late night Caves show, Nebula- LOVE IT!! and of course a night with Krist Novoselic and Flipper. OK no Nebula footage but the bassist was the hottest guy in Portland and he's married so time to move. Anyways, Flipper was amazing till my ear drums burst out and my mind was blown out of my skull and ordered a Jager at the bar while I headbanged. Yes, it was amazing, but the sound was a bit difficult to take in. I was pretty stoked to see long time hero Krist playing just inches away from me. If better days had seized us, I would have been watching Krist, Dave and Kurt all together playing some Teen Spirit or at least thrashing their guitars and maybe even setting the drum set on fire. Oh, the good times... those good times are gone and until we are in rock n roll heaven, we must settle for what is rocking now. What is rocking now is the question. Let me know... it is on~!

I AM WOMAN
So, it has been almost 2 years since I left the farm. I have learned so much, but there is so much more to learn. Yesterday I learned how to do my hair. I went to the salon and asked Anne Quinn at Magnum Opus to help me with my smooth locks. Check. Today I am off to the face lady who is going to help me look pretty-ha! Like nature hasn't helped me with this before... goodness! So I am learning how to be a woman. It is all too funny to me! Look MoM - I am normal!! Ok, actually, I am starting to look like I am from the O.C. which is sad, because I moved away from there in 1999 to get away from the materialism and bull. I know this identity crisis has been interesting. I can't wait to get back to me again. Maybe I will stop brushing my hair again?? Who knows... one brushing at a time.

Things I Learned From Gza Last Night

1. How to play chess. First, Gza tells me that chess is a great natural high. He does not like when people play "cubby" moves aka cubs scout moves that are super basic. His cousin taught him a few years ago and Gza loves to play on the tour bus. He will take any challengers and he never gives up.
2. That washing your hands after using the bathroom is very important. He tells me that this is where he starts judging people. Gza said that he knows girls are trashy if they don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. Keep it fresh yo!
3. How to make a fresh late night smoothie while on a tour bus. Preparation is key. He cuts up fresh fruit, freezes it and then busts it into the blender with a little water. The smoothie he made had pineapple, banana, strawberries and a few fresh blueberries. I was impressed that after a show he just busted one out. Yum Yum!
4. How to have to softest skin in the world. Touch him, you will understand. He told me that once he met a little kid and the kid called him out for having super soft hands. His nails are really nice as well, he says it is all the good food he eats. I believe it after the late night healthy smoothie.
5. Time to stop smoking. As we rolled down the smoke filled halls of the hotel, he told me that he doesn't smoke anymore. Gza is 42 now and feels like that it is in his past. He has better things to do now...time to evolve in a different way.
~Thanks to Heathcliff for inviting me out last night. Next time we have to hang when you are not working. Good times are here again...

Heathcliff & I on stage while Gza got all crazy with the 46 chambers.

Girltalk
TRIPLE YIKES!!! I went to see Girltalk at the Roseland this past weekend. It was off the hook to say the least. I really like this guys energy. At one point he had evryone on the stage. It was wild.
KIDZ RAGE was back in effect this weekend. Didn't realize how long it had been or how long I have been out of it. When I moved to PDX, I tried to stay clear of all my hippie homies, not because I didn't love them to death, but rather I needed time to myself and wanted to see what life was like away from all the hippie shit. This weekend, I raged with the kidz. It ws super fun and I had no idea how much I missed it.
Can't a kid just rage? We'll kid, I guess they can!
Cheers!
Dear Portland,
It has been a good run. You got me out of Humboldt, you got me away from Robb, and you got me a whole new way of life. I am forever thankful, but I think it is time we parted ways. I love your sunny days, your rainy ones make me sad & lonely. Unfortunatly, the rain comes more than the sun, and the fun comes less than that. It isn't you Portland, it is me. I have lived such an extravegant life you see. I can't sit in my basement forever dreaming of all the fun that is out there as I stare out my little window at the drops coming down. I do love you and kinda really enjoy you. I just need more stimulation. I need more action, and let's face it, I need more hotties. I mean, if there were at lest two cute guys in the whole town, maybe I'd feel better. Unfortunatly, you haven't shown me the light of love here. I do adore the people but have never really felt as if this is the place for me. I like that people bike, plant things and are covered in tattoos. I love when people express themselves. Portland, you are overloaded with these types, and I love it. It is just not for me. Portland, I will stay with you till fall, but then I must go. I don't know where the wind shall take me, but I know it is time. It has almost been two years. You have served your puropse, now it is time I found mine.
You will always be remembered. Thank you for the love you have gave.
Cheers!

Mint- Restaurant Review
Mint's food kinda sucks, but their drinks are to die for. I got the Tropical Punch which has pineapple rum, banana rum, vodka, cherry juice, pineapple juice, and mandarin puree served on the rocks for $9. Totally worth it!! If you want to know how to start me up- take me here and make me drink three of these. Instantly, I started having flashbacks to every island I have ever been to. I started feeling really good and could almost smell the ocean. I think I even envisioned a hot surfer. Later, I looked again and I think it was a bum in a Hawaiian shirt- bummer! Yeah, so Mint is not the place for dinner but definitely the place to waste your face! Cheers!

Sometimes I Dream
I gave up dreaming about an hour ago. What is the use, I thought, I have been doing it for so long and nothing really has come out of it. I sit around daydreaming of all the things I want, or all the places I would rather be than here. Portland, Oregon. How did this happen to me? Raised in California, I became burnt out by all the plastic realities, maybe that is when I begun to daydream. I dreampt my way out of Southern California and let myself adrift all over the country before landing in Northern California. A good run there, but I kept dreaming. I have always wanted bigger and better things. For some reason, I feel like I deserve them. Not like I am better, I just have always dreamed big.
Here in Portland it rains. The rain comes down and it is cold. It makes rain come from my eyes. It makes rain come from my heart. I sit bored again, dreaming. I have a job, a boyfriend and a rental. My boyfriend makes me happy, though I believe that he does not truly understand me. My job is an unchallenging bore. My rental is cold and dark, just like the rest of the city. Sometimes I wonder why I am here, and I begin to dream again.
No one knows that all I do is dream. Or maybe they do. I dream that life will make me grand, but I already know I am grand. I dream life will help me make what I have better, but I already know what I have is enough. I am never content with what I have hence the dreams. As Americans, we always want more, and accordingly, I want more. So, I dream of more and try to resist.
But I have given dreaming up, or maybe dreaming has given up me. Either way our fantacy relationship is over. No more dreams of a home of my own. No more dreams of a place I can rest and no one will ever bother me. No more dreams of having a purpose in life. No more dreams of freedom and happiness. Our relationship is over. We are over taunting each other.
